“THE CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD ( CRC) AT 35 YEARS. THE PROMISE KEPT OR ‘A DREAM DEFERRED’?”

That is the theme of the International Society of Family Law (ISFL) Caribbean Regional
Conference to be held at the Hilton Trinidad and Conference Centre, during November 13- 15,
2024. The Conference Convener, Independent Senator, Hazel Thompson-Ahye, Vice- President

magistrates, law professors, doctors, social workers, psychologists, educators and administrators
from North and South America, Europe, United Kingdom, Asia, Africa and various English
speaking and Dutch Caribbean territories, will discuss their States’ responses to a variety of child
rights issues, in light of their States’ obligations after ratification of the CRC.

Senator Thompson- Ahye stated that while the usual concerns about child abuse and neglect,
maintenance, custody and access will be discussed, increasingly important issues, as human
rights of migrant and refugee children, child justice, children with disabilities, children’s mental
and emotional health, breaking the school-house to jailhouse pipeline, cybercrimes against
children, environmental health and using restorative practices will be featured at the conference.
